    The Guild supports the proposal as this change will result in increased access for patients who require combination therapy, although we note the surcharge on Oxis Turbuhaler and Floradil will result in fewer patients utilising these non-combination products.

    Options to extend the period of supply for prescription medicines

    The Guild considers the proposal to allow prescribers to issue a 12 month prescription for oral contraceptives and a six month prescription for all other prescription medication to be acceptable, subject to our recommended safeguards.

    Doctors and financial conflicts of interest

    The Guild agrees with the Medical Council that there are some gaps in the current standards and that the advice provided to doctors needs to be more explicit. The Guild believes the standards proposed by the Council are appropriate.

    Proposal for Candesartan – Access Widening and Sole Supply

    The Guild supports widening of the Special Authority for candesartan and the removal of the daily dose dispensing restrictions. We also wish to highlight the importance of there being adequate availability of the new brand, in order to avoid stock issues.

    Proposal for funding of additional brand of adrenaline (1:10,000) injection

    Community pharmacies will be left carrying the remainder of the pack size, which is an additional cost to the pharmacy. The Guild therefore suggests subsidising a pack size of five ampoules or an increase in the Practitioner’s Supply Order (PSO) quantity to 10 ampoules.

    Parliamentary Maori Affairs Select Committee Inquiry into the Determinants of Wellbeing for Maori Children
